Striking truck drivers at Waiuku-based haulage firm Knight and Dickey say management has forced their hand.
The drivers are taking strike action from 6 am on Thursday, February 16 to Monday, February 20 to protest what they say are some of the lowest wages in the region.
“The truckies at Knight and Dickey are finding it harder and harder to make ends meet,” says their workers’ representative, FIRST Union organiser Bryce Hamilton.
“They’re earning under the industry standard for bulk tippers and curtain side trucks,” says Hamilton.
“This is going to be a hassle for the company, but our truckies are taking action as a last resort. They’ve tried to bargain. They’ve sought to reason. But management has forced their hand,” said Hamilton.
“They just want a fair go,” he says.
